A Rainy Day in Houston
Nov 27th 2020 was supposed to be a wet and rainy day in Galveston , so we thought why not go out to Houston (1 hour drive from Galveston) and roam the city. Because what is more better, than eating hot food on a cold and rainy day, but what we did not anticipate is the traffic which Houston is going to land us with.
Each time we have had our trip back and forth between Houston and Galveston, we have encountered traffic at-least due to one major accident. So unfortunately its not the rain that kills the mood , it's this traffic that does it more. Anyways enough of cribbing below is our itinerary for a rainy day in Houston.
We started our day after having a good breakfast at home. We had decided to visit the Houston Space Center, given it was indoors and we were out on a rainy day. We had booked the tickets in advance, to avoid the lines and unnecessary crowding during a pandemic. We also opted for the 9AM visit to peacefully meander through the Space center. Definitely enjoyed watching and learning about history of humans in space world.
After roaming for nearly 2 hours, we decided to fill our hungry stomachs in Houston Downtown. Houston is home to a delicious mix of cuisines. Though that makes you feel better , it only adds more to the tax of finding the best place to eat as your hunger grows exponentially. We landed on trying two places. The Fat Bao, an Asian fusion joint serving steamed buns stuffed with meat , vegetables and then Liberty Tacos (A must try if you are craving a fresh and delicious taco).
Post lunch in our car, we drove to Gerald D. Hines Water wall Park, to see the man made waterfall in the middle of the city. It was very illusional and mystic. The sound of water is so peaceful and also is the mist that drops on your face when you stand close enough.
By then it was 3PM and the rain was pouring all the more with time , so we decided to return back to Galveston. However, the traffic was so bad that instead of getting stuck in between, we took an exit and decided to visit the HongKong Market. This place was huge with a lot of Asian foods and produce. I felt like I was transported back to Asia. We shopped for a lot of fresh fruits and spices to take back to Minnesota. Post that we returned to Galveston ,as the sun started going down, with rays penetrating through the cloud skies into the water below to show off its hues.
Next day we started early morning at 6:06 AM thinking we have to cross the entire state of Texas and reach our Mermaid Cove(That was the name of our Airbnb) in Galveston by end of the day. But was is the fun of the journey to the destination without some fun stops. So why not start with the Dallas Farmers Market in Downtown.
