Driving from Minnesota to Galveston

Working from home and staying at home had definitely required us to take some time out and go for a long drive to get refreshed again. Being in a pandemic , we had to avoid going to public places with lots of crowd. This excludes all the crowded tourist places, we had to find a place that we stay a week and call it home but not our work place.

And as we were browsing the gulf coast, we landed on Galveston. As it is winter in Minnesota, our bias is towards tropical places if not less colder . Galveston did hit the sweet spot of less crowd during the month of November and yet an enjoyable place to walk on beaches and take on the colors of the sky and be free. So this is our itinerary of a road trip to Galveston from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Day 1

We had decided to cover the distance from Minnesota to Galveston in two days with a stop at Tulsa. So why Tulsa? It just was a good midpoint stop for the night for our 20 hours journey. We started in Minnesota at 5:30 AM in the morning and drove with all the initial jest straight to Kansas city for 7 hours with some turns at gas stations and rest stops as and when needed switching driving seats with each other along with listening to all kinds of music. At Kansas city we had out lunch at McAlister's Deli (Do stop here if you craving some fresh sandwiches, the quality of food matched the taste to Panera bread which we are fans of!).

We had booked this small Airbnb(Apartment A - Off Route 66) good for two in the town of Tulsa. Tired of 10 hours drive we decided to take takeout from Golden gate, Tulsa (They had the really delicious egg rolls and their spicy did give a good comfort to our hungry bellies). Our airbnb was clean and and did serve its purpose of all amenities for a one night stay. We called it a day after good meal and watching some telly.

Day 2

Next day we started early morning at 6:06 AM thinking we have to cross the entire state of Texas and reach our Mermaid Cove(That was the name of our Airbnb) in Galveston by end of the day. But was is the fun of the journey to the destination without some fun stops. So why not start with the Dallas Farmers Market in Downtown.

So here we were all hungry strolling in the farmers market. Obviously our next step was to hog on the numerous options that the market had. So we decided to part ways and find our own hearty meal. I picked the Caribbean platter (goat curry with sweet plantains) from the Caribbean Cabana😋 and my husband picked the infamous margherita Neapolitan pizza from BellaTrino Pizzeria ❤️❤️❤️. We opened the roof of our car and merrily ate our lunch and headed to Buc-ee's, home to the heart of every striding Texan or every person driving Texas.

But suddenly we were reminded of the pandemic and looking at the enormous crowd out there we decided to take this turn at a low tide of people and off we went to take sip some peach tea at Starbucks , only to courage the Houston traffic ahead of us. Our Starbucks exit did not only cost us some dollars but a good 45 minutes of derailed traffic to to accident that just took place minutes before we passing that scene.

After recovering from the traffic and on our way to enter Galveston, we were welcomed with the sunset along the bay side of Galveston as we drove into the town. Our Airbnb was past the Seawall BLVD, so crossing it every time meant just soothing our eyes with the sea breeze and taking in all colors of sunset. All the tiredness from the day long of travel had vanished and we reached our home for the next week. Voila!!!
