Waterton National Park - The Wildflower Wonderland.

This is national park in Southern Alberta is highly over looked compared to the giants like Banff and Jasper to the north. It a locals secret and needs visiting on it own in all seasons. It just like how wild berries pack a punch this one does the same but for national parks.

I say all of this just in 2 days of my visit to Waterton in June 2024. We started from Calagary around 8:30 AM and reach Waterton Visitor center around 11:30 AM. On our way we stopped at High River Farmers market and picked some veggies for ourday ahead. As soon as we reached we loaded ourselves at the picnic spots at the beach behind the visitor center. From there we decided to the lower Bertha Falls Lake which is a 3.3 mi out and back trail with epic views, a waterfall at the end and a scenic route through meadows.

From there we went to see the Prince of Wales Hotel. The location of this hotel is so admirable. Its perfectly situated on the hill overlooking the valley. Our next stop was Driftwood beach. Do definitely stop here, since the view of the valley and the surrounding hills makes this place so beautiful. Also a disclaimer be prepared for a windy day when in Waterton.

Our second day started at Red Rock Canyon where we did the trail loop and clicked a bunch of pictures. It was cold and foggy but nevertheless so stunning. We also did the Blakiston Falls Trail. I would highly recommend this one as the views are one of a kind and the deck to see the waterfalls just stands at the right place. On our way back from the falls, it literally snowed in the middle of June. The feeling of fresh snow in the middle of nowhere is magical.

From there we ate our lunch soaking in the views along Red Rock Parkway back to Waterton. We drove next to Lake Cameron. Since it was snowing, Lake Cameron looked so good with snowfall. We partially did the Lake Cameron trail as the mountain behind the lake hazed into fog. Its mostly a flat terrian to walk and the lake area is definitely a great spot to try some kayaking or paddle boarding on a sunny day.

Post that we drove back to Pincher Creek, packed our dinner and headed back again to Waterton one last time. We did the Bear’s Hump Hike. This one is right in town and full of switchbacks but so worth the sweat. It provides the full view of the Waterton village. Post that hike , we drove near Bison Paddock and ate our dinner watching bisons and
